## Connect your first Discord server

Sign in, connect a server, and let Vetra check the bot access before setup starts.

4 minute guide.

### Before you start

Vetra only lists servers the signed-in Discord account is allowed to manage.

- Use a Discord account that owns the server, has Administrator or Manage Server, or holds a role listed under Settings → Access & roles.
- Keep the Vetra bot online so the dashboard can see the server.
- Choose the server you want to set up. Every change stays on that server.

> **Safe sign-in:** Discord handles sign-in. Vetra does not ask for your Discord password.

### Connect the server

- **Sign in and open Servers** — Continue with Discord, then open Servers. Connected servers and servers ready to connect are shown separately.
- **Choose a manageable server** — Select the server you want. If needed, Vetra opens setup for that server.
- **Authorize the bot in Discord** — Discord shows the requested permissions before you approve them. The current setup flow does not request Administrator access.
- **Wait for the access check** — Vetra waits until the bot is online and Discord confirms its access. Returning from Discord alone does not finish setup.

> **Access must be checked:** If the check is missing or still loading, setup stays incomplete. Try again or reconnect the bot. Server permissions do not override channel restrictions or role order, so each module checks its chosen channels and roles again.

### Choose a starting setup

After the access check, use a starter preset or choose modules yourself. Presets only turn modules on. They do not create channels, roles, or messages.

Open each module to finish its channels, settings, or content. Check the server name before you save.

- **Connection:** The bot is online in the server
- **Access:** Discord confirms what the bot can do
- **Preset:** Enables modules only
- **Setup:** Finished inside each module

> **Refresh changed access:** Vetra checks Discord again before a server change. If Discord access is out of date, use Refresh with Discord, return to the same server, and save again.

### Give staff dashboard access

Settings → Access & roles decides who can configure this server in Vetra.

- The server owner, Administrator, and Manage Server always have access. That cannot be switched off.
- Add up to 25 Discord roles under Additional access. Anyone holding one of those roles can open the server and change its settings.
- Vetra checks role membership live with Discord, so removing the role in Discord removes the access.
- Command use, billing, private ticket transcripts, and Vetra Admin are separate. Dashboard access does not grant them.

> **Roles, not people:** Access follows the role. Check who holds a role in Discord before you add it.
